Cuban Knows Best

While I was neglecting to pay attention in my statistics class this morning, I found myself wondering through various conservative web sites. As I sifted through this site, Limbaugh's, Hannity's, I soon stumbled into the world of Mark Levin.

I went to MarkLevinShow.com, and was browsing through some articles. The first clip on his site was about his show on February 6th, which included a tribute to Ronald Reagan's 96th birthday. In the show he played a part of a Reagan speech, given in 1964 in support of Barry Goldwater, a republican presidential candidate. I began to read the transcript, realizing how much more interesting it was than double blind statistical experiments, and stumbled across something that absolutely blew my mind, and that is very tough to do.

"Not too long ago two friends of mine were talking
to a Cuban refugee, a businessman who had escaped
from Castro, and in the midst of his story one of my
friends turned to the other and said, "We don't know
how lucky we are." And the Cuban stopped and said,
"How lucky you are! I had someplace to escape to."
In that sentence he told us the entire story. If we
lose freedom here, there is no place to escape to.
This is the last stand on Earth."

Wow. Take a moment to read that passage again. "This is the last stand on earth." I don't know about you, but I have never taken time and thought about my country that way. The fact that people from all over the world view us as the last chance for freedom on earth is humbling. That statement of fact, because it is a fact, places a heavy burden upon the United States. President Bush made reference to that fact after 9/11:

"America is the brightest beacon for freedom in the
world; and no one will keep that light from shining."

We must defend ourselves, we have the responsibility to do so. Those who want to wave the white flag of surrender in the War on Terror and the Immigration war, must just be misinformed. Do they not see this. Republican and Democrat alike, the political attitude coming from Washington is frightening. We must see the consequences.

Bureaucrats in our nation's capitol have begun show their political motivations as being self serving, and used for self advancement and preservation. I want to see a prominent official risk his or her political neck and stand up for what is right for America, all of America, not just the right or left of it. I am a Republican, not an Independent. But that makes no matter in this case. The past is the past, the future is now, and if we do not get our heads out of the clouds, the world could very well be rid of freedom, and fall into the hands of those who despise its very principle.

But again, what do I know?

Spineless Leadership

The Republican Congressional leadership, or lack thereof is almost vomit inducing. The likes of Chuck Hagel and John Warner are poisoning the GOP with their spineless wavering, joining the ranks of groupie under the Pelosi/Reid gang. Warner, formerly a staunch supporter of the President and the War on Terror, has let his aging wisdom fade away.

John Warner, in all his 'wisdom', says that President Bush needs to "consider all options and alternatives for achieving the strategic goals". WOW! great idea John. Since Bush hasn't already done that it's a good idea that he should do that now; good call Senator. Of course we all know that Bush sits around twiddling his thumbs in the oval office, ignoring the multitudes of intelligence reports, so called commissions, and countless advisors. It might just be me, but I do believe that our President is just a bit smarter than that as the ELECTED leader of the free world (twice).

The GOP leaders cannot fall into this scheme to undermine our President, and especially our troops. How long are we going to continue to send a message of weakness and retreat to our enemies and even our friends. Where is the American spirit? Whatever happened to United We Stand, Divided We Fall? This is getting to be disheartening.

Some of the Republican leaders may lack the spine to stand firm in their convictions, but thank goodness for America that the dems lack the intestinal fortitude to even put theirs to a vote. Thank goodness once more that the dems are more interested in playing politics than actually enacting those politics. On the other hand, it seems the GOP lawmakers are lacking the same fortitude to put the dems to the test.

All this talk, and that is all this is, talk, about the cutting of funds to the men and women in uniform needs to be put to the test. The Republican members of Congress need to call them out. Put that in writing and put it to the vote. Make the libs put their money where their mouths are, or rather, remove the money; okay, bad cliché but nonetheless, where is the Congressman/woman who will step up and challenge them? I sure wish I knew.

                But what do I know?
